One Hour, One Visit
Traditionally, receiving a dental crown required at least two appointments. During the first visit, the tooth was prepared, impressions were taken, and a temporary crown was placed. The permanent crown was then created by an outside dental laboratory and placed during a later appointment. CEREC technology brings much of that process directly into our Jackson dental office.
Using advanced digital scanning and in-office restoration technology, our team can plan and create many permanent crowns during the same visit. You can arrive with a damaged or weakened tooth and, when same-day treatment is appropriate, leave with your completed restoration in place.

Capture a Digital Scan
Instead of relying on a conventional impression tray, we use an intraoral scanner to capture detailed images of your tooth and surrounding bite.
Design Your Restoration
Specialized software uses the digital scan to create a three-dimensional model. Your crown is then designed to fit the prepared tooth and work naturally with your bite.
Create the Crown in Our Office
The completed design is sent to the CEREC milling unit, which shapes the restoration from a selected block of dental material.
Place and Finish Your Crown
Dr. Larsen checks the fit, appearance, and bite before securely bonding the completed restoration into place.

How do I know if I need a crown?
A crown may be recommended when a tooth is no longer strong enough to be predictably restored with a filling alone.

Can a crown really be completed in one visit?
In many cases, yes. The tooth can be prepared, digitally scanned, designed, restored, and completed during the same appointment. Treatment time varies according to the tooth, restoration material, and individual clinical needs.
Will I need a temporary crown?
Many patients receiving a same-day CEREC crown do not need a temporary restoration because the permanent crown is created in our office during the appointment.
Do CEREC crowns look natural?
CEREC crowns are made from tooth-colored restorative materials. The shape, shade, fit, and bite are considered as the crown is designed and finished.
Are same-day crowns as durable as traditional crowns?
CEREC offers several restorative material options. Dr. Larsen will select an appropriate material based on the location of the tooth, the forces placed on it, its appearance, and your individual dental needs.
Does digital scanning replace dental impressions?
For many CEREC treatments, a digital intraoral scan can replace the conventional impression tray used to create a model of the tooth.
Are all crowns eligible for same-day treatment?
No. Although many crowns can be completed using CEREC, some clinical situations may require a different restoration, material, specialist, or dental laboratory. Dr. Larsen will recommend the most appropriate approach after evaluating the tooth.

How long does the appointment take?
