Modern Restorative Dentistry Designed Around Your Schedule

One Hour, One Visit

Traditionally, receiving a dental crown required at least two appointments. During the first visit, the tooth was prepared, impressions were taken, and a temporary crown was placed. The permanent crown was then created by an outside dental laboratory and placed during a later appointment. CEREC technology brings much of that process directly into our Jackson dental office.

Using advanced digital scanning and in-office restoration technology, our team can plan and create many permanent crowns during the same visit. You can arrive with a damaged or weakened tooth and, when same-day treatment is appropriate, leave with your completed restoration in place.

Why Patients Choose CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Spend Less Time Waiting for Your New Crown

One Convenient Appointment

Many CEREC crowns can be designed, created, and placed during a single visit, reducing the time you need to take away from work, family, travel, or other responsibilities.

No Temporary Crown in Many Cases

Because your permanent crown is made in our office, you can often avoid wearing a temporary crown while waiting for a dental laboratory to complete the final restoration.

Comfortable Digital Impressions

CEREC uses a digital scan to create a detailed three-dimensional model of your teeth. This can eliminate the need for traditional impression trays and putty for applicable treatments.

Customized for Your Smile

Your restoration is digitally designed around the shape of your prepared tooth, your bite, and the surrounding teeth. Dr. Larsen can review and refine the design before it is created.

Tooth-Colored Materials

CEREC restorations are made from durable, tooth-colored dental materials selected to complement the appearance and function of your smile.

Care Provided in One Office

The scanning, design, creation, finishing, and placement of the restoration can all be completed at Larsen Family Dentistry.

Capture a Digital Scan

Instead of relying on a conventional impression tray, we use an intraoral scanner to capture detailed images of your tooth and surrounding bite.

Design Your Restoration

Specialized software uses the digital scan to create a three-dimensional model. Your crown is then designed to fit the prepared tooth and work naturally with your bite.

Create the Crown in Our Office

The completed design is sent to the CEREC milling unit, which shapes the restoration from a selected block of dental material.

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns

Your Questions Answered

How do I know if I need a crown?

A crown may be recommended when a tooth is no longer strong enough to be predictably restored with a filling alone.

Common reasons include:

  • A cracked, fractured, or badly worn tooth
  • A large cavity or extensive decay
  • A weakened tooth with a large existing filling
  • Restoring the shape or function of a damaged tooth
  • Improving the appearance of a noticeably damaged tooth
  • Protecting certain teeth following other dental treatment

Not every patient or restoration is a candidate for same-day treatment. Dr. Larsen will evaluate your tooth and explain the treatment options that best support your long-term dental health.

What is a CEREC crown?

A CEREC crown is a custom dental restoration created with digital scanning, computer-aided design, and in-office milling technology. It allows many permanent crowns to be created and placed during one appointment.

Can a crown really be completed in one visit?

In many cases, yes. The tooth can be prepared, digitally scanned, designed, restored, and completed during the same appointment. Treatment time varies according to the tooth, restoration material, and individual clinical needs.

Will I need a temporary crown?

Many patients receiving a same-day CEREC crown do not need a temporary restoration because the permanent crown is created in our office during the appointment.

Do CEREC crowns look natural?

CEREC crowns are made from tooth-colored restorative materials. The shape, shade, fit, and bite are considered as the crown is designed and finished.

Are same-day crowns as durable as traditional crowns?

CEREC offers several restorative material options. Dr. Larsen will select an appropriate material based on the location of the tooth, the forces placed on it, its appearance, and your individual dental needs.

Does digital scanning replace dental impressions?

For many CEREC treatments, a digital intraoral scan can replace the conventional impression tray used to create a model of the tooth.

Are all crowns eligible for same-day treatment?

No. Although many crowns can be completed using CEREC, some clinical situations may require a different restoration, material, specialist, or dental laboratory. Dr. Larsen will recommend the most appropriate approach after evaluating the tooth.

Is a same-day crown more expensive?

The cost varies according to your treatment needs and insurance coverage. Our office can provide an estimate and help you understand your available benefits before treatment begins.

How long does the appointment take?

The process may take several hours because the tooth must be prepared, scanned, designed, milled, finished, and placed. The advantage is that these steps can often be completed during one visit rather than being spread across multiple appointments.

How do I care for a CEREC crown?

Care for your crown by brushing, flossing, attending regular dental examinations, and avoiding habits that can damage natural teeth or restorations. Dr. Larsen may provide additional recommendations based on the location of your crown and your bite.
